The National Finals Rodeo (NFR) consists of 8 contests: Bareback, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping (Header), Team Roping (Footer), Saddle Bronc Riding, Tie-Down Roping, Barrel Racing, and Bull Riding. To compete at the NFR, each cowboy/cowgirl must be one of the top 15 competitors in their field... So you're only watching the very best! A national champion is decided in each field at the end of the 10 day event.
The following are some photos from the night.

So, how does your local county rodeo start out? Well, the NFR has fireworks and lasers!
The 8 events: as seen from my seat
Bareback |
Steer Wrestling |
Team Roping (Header) and Team Roping (Footer) |
Tie-Down Roping |
Barrel Racing |
and... finally... Bull Riding! (complete with a barrel and championship clowns, too!) |
Proof I was there! I didn't really "fit in"... I needed a hat, wranglers, boots and most surprisingly...bling! Those cowboys and cowgirls really know how to layer on the diamonds! |
Even if you aren't a "rodeo person", you'll have a good time at the NFR.
